FAQ
Everything you need to know, organized by topic.
Getting started
Yes. ONIS is completely free to download and use. There is no subscription, no premium tier, and no paywalled features. Download it, use it, and that's all.
No account required. ONIS works out of the box. Your habits are stored on your device and optionally synced via your existing iCloud account — no sign-up, no email, no password.
ONIS requires iOS 17 or later on your iPhone. For Apple Watch features, you need watchOS 10 or later on your Apple Watch. You can check your version in iPhone Settings → General → Software Update.
Yes. ONIS works on iPhone alone — you can create habits, log completions, view streaks, and track progress entirely from your phone. That said, the one-tap Watch experience is what ONIS was specifically designed around, so a Watch is recommended for the full benefit.
Habits & streaks
Yes. In ONIS on iPhone, tap and hold on any habit to access the completion history editor. You can add or remove completions for any past date, which will update your streak accordingly. This is designed for days when you forgot to tap your Watch.
You can archive a habit to hide it without deleting it. Tap and hold the habit → select Archive. Archived habits don't appear in your daily list but keep all their history. You can restore them at any time from Settings → Archived Habits.
A streak counts consecutive days you've completed a habit. If your habit schedule is daily, missing any one day resets the streak to zero. If your schedule is "3 days per week", your streak stays intact as long as you hit your weekly target. ONIS calculates streaks in your local time zone based on when you tap.
Apple Watch
Long press on your current watch face → tap Edit → scroll to the Complications section → tap any complication slot → scroll to find ONIS and select it. ONIS supports multiple complication sizes. After saving, tapping the complication opens ONIS directly.
If ONIS takes more than a second to respond on your Watch, try these steps: (1) On iPhone, open the Watch app → tap ONIS → toggle the app off and back on. (2) Open ONIS on iPhone while your Watch is nearby to trigger a sync. (3) Restart your Apple Watch by holding the side button and sliding to power off. Most tap delays resolve after a sync cycle.
First, ensure ONIS is installed on your iPhone and your Watch is paired and connected. Then: (1) Open the Watch app on iPhone → scroll down to find ONIS under "Available Apps" → tap Install. (2) If it's already installed but not showing, try force-quitting the Watch app on iPhone and reopening it. (3) On your Watch, press the Digital Crown → find ONIS in the app grid and tap it to launch.
HealthKit & privacy
Your data is stored on your iPhone and Apple Watch. If iCloud Drive is enabled for ONIS, it syncs through Apple CloudKit — this means your data lives in your iCloud account (tied to your Apple ID), not on our servers. ONIS Labs cannot access, read, or export your CloudKit data. See our Privacy Policy for full details.
To delete all local habit data: ONIS → Settings → Reset All Data → Confirm. To also delete iCloud sync data: iPhone Settings → [Your Name] → iCloud → Manage Account Storage → ONIS → Delete Data. To remove everything completely, perform both steps and then delete the app. See Privacy Policy Section 8 for step-by-step instructions.
Troubleshooting
Streak resets most commonly happen due to a missed day (even by a few minutes past midnight) or a time zone change. To investigate: tap on the habit → view the completion history — you'll see exactly which date shows as incomplete. If a reset was caused by a sync error, you can manually add the missed completion for that date by tapping and holding the habit → Edit History.
Open ONIS on iPhone to trigger an automatic sync. If data still looks different: (1) Make sure both devices are on the same Wi-Fi network and Bluetooth is on. (2) Open the Watch app on iPhone → tap ONIS → toggle the app off, wait 5 seconds, toggle back on. (3) If the issue persists after a few minutes, force-close ONIS on both devices and reopen. iCloud sync may take up to a few minutes to propagate changes.
